How long has this restaurant been in existence?  This place is an old school institution that has been a hidden place in the basement for as long as I can remember.

Very Fair Chinese Restaurants serves above average dim sum at very fair prices.  Haha but it's true.  This ain't your fancy hip Asian restaurant.  This is your neighborhood staple, tried and true.  And at old school prices.  I don't think a lot of people know this place exists.  Only those in the know, would know this place cause it's hidden.  Anyways, the foods pretty decent and the prices are good so it's a convenient option if you're in the neighborhood.

Good dim sum place, average food, there is a discount on "large" items if you order before 11am on weekdays

My family came here for dinner on a Tuesday last week. We used to come to the restaurant in this location all the time many years ago. It was nostalgic walking down those stairs to the restaurant again. There was no need for reservations as the restaurant was barely filled.

There were lots of specials to choose from but keep in mind that you can only order 1 special at a time. The servers were young ladies (perhaps university aged students working for the first time at a restaurant). They were clueless and constantly had to seek out their supervisor. There were some things that seemed like common sense to me but was clearly over their heads. Why would you reach to take away a customer's bowl when she's using chopsticks to eat food? Or removing dishes when there's still food on it and not even asking if you can take it away. Or taking away tea cups when customers are still eating, chatting and haven't asked for the bill? Just a few things that baffled me.

All the dishes that we ordered were flavourful and a good portion. We saw 2 large sashimi boats go by on a cart and were confused for a second. Were we at a Chinese restaurant or a Japanese one?

Cleanliness - check your tea cups and eating utensils before using them. One of the tea cups was dirty, fork was not clean and a chopstick (was chipped) had seen better days and should be retired at this point.

The food was wonderful but the service was lacking. I'm sure we'll be back but know to keep an eye out for certain things.

UPDATE: My friend that I came here with got cha siu baos togo and she ripped it open to eat it this morning and found a fucking roach inside!!!! HARD PASS. BE CAREFUL OR JUST DO NOT COME HERE AT ALL.

We came here on a Tuesday morning at ~9:30AM and their weekday deals are $3 for any S M L dish. Obviously quite empty, however the quality of dishes were not bad! There is a woman who pushes a cart around but for this trip she was offering congee. However service here is 50/50, you'll get some really kind servers and then some give you unnecessary attitude... So the experience was inconsistent. Also located in a basement so I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Our friend treated us for her farewell/birthday. She ordered the Alaska King crab legs, that was very tasty. However, would have been better if the meat was more firm. The fried rice that came with it, with the crab shell, I did not taste any crab in the rice.

The other dishes were very mediocre, such a the greens and fried lobster. Overall it was not bad, however if that was a set meal, I would recommend them to add a noodle in it.
